MYERSVILLE, Md. — One man was killed and three other were injured when a vehicle struck pedestrians on the side of Interstate 70 Tuesday morning.
The westbound side of the highway was closed to traffic while the crash was being investigated.
Those injured and killed in the crash are incarcerated men from the Maryland Correctional Training Center near Hagerstown. The men were working along the interstate about a mile east of the Myersville when a tractor trailer struck them, along with a Division of Corrections van and equipment trailer.
Emergency personnel transported the three injured men to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, according to Maryland State Police Lt. Wayne Wachsmuth. Two other inmates and a Division of Corrections officer supervising the work were not injured in the crash.
Officials could not immediately release the names of the deceased or injured.
